Apple Orchard Harvest Skillet
Caramelized apples and sweet onions glazed with maple, thyme and cinnamon in cast iron, finished with toasted pecans — sweet, savory, and straight from the orchard.
Ingredients
- 2 apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), sliced
- 1 large sweet onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp coarse black pepper
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup toasted pecans
- Optional: drizzle of balsamic reduction
Instructions
- Caramelize. Heat olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add apples and onions. Cook 8–10 minutes until softened and lightly golden.
- Season & glaze. Add garlic, maple syrup, pepper, thyme, cinnamon, and salt. Stir well to coat and let everything glaze together.
- Add depth. Cook another 3–4 minutes until apples are tender and edges are caramelized.
- Finish with crunch. Stir in toasted pecans. Remove from heat and drizzle with balsamic reduction if using.
- Serve warm. Perfect as a side or over farro, quinoa, or with roasted chicken or pork.
Tip: For extra orchard flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples!
