Blackened Asparagus
Smoky, savory, and perfectly charred — a simple side dish with big flavor, finished with Parmesan and toasted breadcrumbs.
Where smoke meets sunlight,
the humble spear turns golden.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 1–2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- 2 tbsp blackening seasoning (below)
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan (optional)
- 2 tbsp toasted breadcrumbs (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
- Blackening seasoning
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- ½–1 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, toss the asparagus with olive oil or melted butter until evenly coated.
- Sprinkle the blackening seasoning over the asparagus and toss to coat well.
- Spread the asparagus in a single layer on the baking sheet.
- Roast for 12–15 minutes, until tender and charred on the edges.
- Remove from the oven and top with Parmesan and toasted breadcrumbs. Serve with lemon wedges, if desired.
For extra char, broil for the last 1–2 minutes. Delicious with grilled meats, fish, or pasta.
